Margarita Island Travel Guide
Margarita Island is one of the three islands forming Nueva Esparta State. The
other two that composes the said state are Coche Island and Cubagua Island.
Among the three, Margarita Island is the only one having a combination of
developed resorts and areas, on the east and undeveloped exquisite mountains
ringed with sandy beaches, on the west end. It is a perfect combination for
tourists and thrill-seekers along with its charming and hospitable locals. You
can experience both relaxation and adventure just by visiting the enchanting
Caribbean Island of Margarita.
Also known as the "Pearl of Caribbean", La Isla Margarita is the crowning place
to spend your summer get-away. The weather is very Caribbean, clear and sunny,
leaving less space for rainfall. Although Margarita Island's temperature is like
a desert only filled with coconut palms and white sand beaches, the cool breeze
compensates leaving a very lively climate. Margarita Island is a paradise away
from the hurricane-belt. All year-round, it is an impeccable hot tourist
destination. So better grab your swimsuits and trunks because nobody leaves La
Isla Margarita without having sun marks on their back or on their face.
Being a part of the Caribbean does not exempt any place from being beach-filled
where anybody can swim at the clear, crystal water. Margarita Island has at
least 50 magnificent and unique beaches scattered in the 106 miles of margarita
coastline. Best of all, there are no private beaches in Margarita Island as
decided by the governor. You can resort-hop and you are very much welcome at
different hotel resorts even if you are not one of their guests.
Out of all the beaches in Margarita Island, Playa El Agua is the longest,
busiest and the widest beach making it as the most popular beach in the island.
It is not only a place that you can relax and sun-bathe but also an area to do
different outdoor activities such as bungee jumping and ride an ultra light
plane. At night, the ambiance is filled with musical events which make Playa El
Agua a very lively beach after dawn. At Playa El Agua, one may also eat fresh
sea foods and drink cocktails along the water's edge. Tourism is ever growing in
Playa El Agua. Currently, more and more hotels are being built to accommodate
all the foreigners visiting the magnificent beach.
Aside from Playa El Agua, Margarita Island has also a beach where mostly young
people are seen. It is in the Playa Parguito which is located at the Southeast
end of La Isla Margarita. This is where surfers gather, playing loud music and
partying till the break of dawn. However, it does not have as much hotels and
restaurants as Playa El Agua. But Playa Parguito is the place to be if you seek
for more privacy.
The windsurfer's paradise can also be seen at the island of Margarita. It is the
Playa El Yaque located at the south part of Margarita Island. Because of its
steady side shore winds, Playa El Yaqueis a great place not only for wind
surfing but for kite surfing as well.
