Ecuador Real Estate
Straddled along the equator, Equador has an area of 256,370 98,985 mi². It is
located in South America and is deemed as a beautiful country rich with animated
cultures, classic architecture, and thick rainforests.
Equador has three mainland regions namely the La Costa (the coast), which
includes the Pacific coastline, La Sierra (the highlands), which has a
mountainous landscape, and the El Oriente (the east), which embraces the Amazon
rainforest. Ecuador also includes Region Insular, which is the part comprising
the Galapagos Islands.
The population of Ecuador is ethnically diverse, with the mixed descendants of
Spaniard and Indians, called Mestizos, constituting sixty-four percent of the
total population. Second in numbers are the Amerindians, which have a total of
twenty-two percent of the population. Next to Amerindians are the Criollos, the
pure descendants of early Spanish colonists and settlers from the countries in
Europe and Latin America consisting of twelve percent. The remaining two percent
is comprised of the Afro-Ecuadorian people, mainly found in the provinces of
Esmeraldas and Imbabura.
Quito is the capital of the country. It is the political heart of Equador, and
also houses the main financial groups of the country. Around two million people
inhabit the city; which is also a prime area for tourists. Quito has amazing
churches, squares, and houses with baroque-inspired architecture.
In terms of the economy, the city of Guayaquil is very significant. Ever since
the formation of Ecuador, it has the foremost port of Equador and has been the
economic capital. The city's primary tourist destination is the newly launched "Malecon
2000".
The cultural capital of the country is the city of Cuenca, which is also
considered the third most vital city of Equador. Its main source of revenue are
the manufacture of textiles, jewelry and Panama hats.
Mantra is where the second port of Equador can be found. Being a United States
military base has helped bring-in more money and visitors to the area. Located
in close proximity to Mantra are the awesome beaches of Manabi, deemed to be
among the finest in Equador.
For more than twenty-five years, petroleum has been the principal source of
income, thereby the most essential export product. It was on the Peninsula of
Santa Elena, in the first part of the twentieth century that the exploration for
oil started. However, the industry for oil only boomed when the exploration was
brought along the Amazon region. Each day, around 380,000 barrels of oil are
processed. It consists of forty-three to sixty-six percent of the country's
over-all export and is allocated around forty-three to fifty-nine percent of the
general budget.
The production of cacao is one of the most important industries in the country.
There are 434,000 hectares of cacao and this product helps generate a twelve
percent employment rate in agriculture. It is mainly imported in England, France,
Germany, Japan and the United States.
The banana industry also provides a big source of revenue for the country since
it s production is the largest in the world. Almost every year, Equador produces
8,036,843 bunches of banana and out of this number, 4,095,191 bunches are
exported to other countries.
The livelihood that that the production of handicrafts, especially textiles and
weavings, provide are important especially to those people who belong to the
lower social classes. The products are primarily marketed in Europe and the
United States.
Real estate has also started to boom as a result of Equador's rising economy and
the growing oil industry, thanks to the completion of a new oil pipeline to the
coastal area. Although there has been a slight increase in the prices of real
estate, the properties are still relatively cheaper than those real estate
properties in the United States and Europe.
